I’ve been reading Women Who Make the World Worse by Kate O’Beirne, and I keep nodding my head. Much of what she says I could’ve written myself. Of particular note is what she says about VAWA. The subtitle for her section on VAWA is “Violence Against the Truth, and the taxpayer.” She describes it as being all about jobs for otherwise-unemployable feminists, and yes, I have said that myself. So far what I’ve read makes eminent sense.
Recently on Townhall.com, I saw this by Mike Adams, about not taking feminists seriously. ;>)
Then in the last week or so, there’s been the Newsweek piece on boys, and how they’re getting shortchanged in school. Much to my surprise, on a TV news program, I saw Christina Hoff Summers talking about the pervasive misandry in the K-12 academic field. It’s always encouraging to see someone whose work I admire, with whom I’ve shared a podium, on national TV.
Yes, feminism is taking a lot of hits these days, and that’s a good thing. I don’t feel so much anymore like I’m all by myself out here, and maybe there’s a chance we can begin to rid our society of that particular disease. It won’t be easy, since it’s an aggressive disease we face; one that has metastasized, affecting nearly all aspects of today’s society.
The cure is simple, but at the same time extraordinarily difficult. Some strong doses of truth, in a mixture with reality would be effective. Getting the patient – in this case, society in general – to take the medicine is the hard part. We’re so used to living with this chronic disorder, that to heal it seems like too much work.
What we do next is going to be important. Will we pass over Newsweek’s recognition of the very real threat to education for males as a minor news story, or will there be others to follow; stories on other aspects of feminist damage?
I think there will be others. Part of this will be due to the fact that there are millions of men out there who are sick and tired of the treatment they’ve been getting for decades, as well as wives, daughters, and mothers who see this happen. There’s also a realization that feminism doesn’t play so well to a generation that grew up seeing women in all kinds of positions of power, from high-level government officials to cops on the beat. There is certainly no evidence of women being any kind of “oppressed minority.” What was once a clarion call to action for equality has become nothing but a contentious whine from a few old girls who are never satisfied, and don’t know what they really want.
“Feminism” itself has become a curious relic of the ‘60s, but the real problem lies in repairing the collateral damage. Examples of this are many, but here’s one that ought to make the most feminist-leaning person take pause: VAWA 2005 has a clause that forces women to stay in their perceived-violent relationships. By making it illegal for landlords of houses or apartments to evict victims of domestic violence, they deprive these women of an obvious, and straightforward tool to use in their defense. No longer can a woman say, “You have to stop this, or we’re going to get thrown out of the apartment.” Nope, now her only recourse is the shelter, if she wants to go, or if they’ll even let her in. (They have standards, don’t you know. Not every woman qualifies for help anymore.)
This should serve as illustration that they don’t bother to think things through. What the hell; this makes us look good, I can imagine the old girls who came up with this brilliant idea saying to each other, their token men and the eunuchs they maintain.
We won’t even talk about the truly bizarre sexual harassment mindset, or the presumption that any man who wants access to his children after divorce must be a pedophile, or the fact a man can no longer defend himself against an assault by anyone who lives in his own home without facing arrest. (This last mention drew me in personally, as a supervisor of the accused, whom I refused to fire for such ridiculous charges, even though I was expected to do so.)
What we’re doing at the bare minimum, is spending multiple billions of dollars that are desperately needed elsewhere, in supporting people who can’t function in real jobs, in agencies and departments and etcetera that provide either no return on investment, or cause even more public dollars to be spent for dubious “needs”.
Just think how much money we’d save by eliminating sexual harassment lectures, and sending the lecturers off to find meaningful employment. That one thing by itself would save multiple millions across the board, for companies, governments, and non-profits.
Just think.
I’d like to mention here, that the common line for those who disagree with me is to say “You’ve got a lot to learn.” Well, if somebody would take the next step and explain specifically what it is they think I need to learn I’d appreciate it. If that’s a code for saying you think I’m an idiot, then please have the cojones to say that. I leave all comments here, for the world to see. It is up to every individual who reads this blog to decide who is the idiot in this case.
